No Sleep

Boulter used to say, "No sleep for the wicked."

I have been up since midnight. As is usual, I cannot fall back to sleep. Although I am tired, sleep alludes me. Insomnia is something that has stalked me for years. As far back as I can remember, actually.

I can read, watch TV, play on the computer, just lay in bed. It is no use.

It never fails, though, that around 6:30 a.m. I can begin to drift. By that time, it is too late. I must be already getting ready for work. A small nap would be disastrous. I will wake feeling even worse. So I force myself to stay awake. Usually.
