Today sucked. No other words to describe it. Rob and I fought all day. Neviyah, my mellow and laid back baby, screamed for what seemed like hours. The doctor informed us that they want to put a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter) in tomorrow morning.

This would allow us to administer antibiotics interveniously from home for a period of time, probably 10 days. It requires sedation. Basically, a think rubber tube is inserted above the elbow and threaded up to and around the shoulder and around umtil the internal tip of the catheter is in the superior vena cava, one of the central venous system veins that carries blood to the heart. There are real risks and I am not overly thrilled with the procedure or concept of its use.

Let me present my uneducated opinion. If there is another alternative, less invasive, less chance of infection, why would that be the first line of treatment? I inquired about antibiotic shots...staying for a vacation at the hospital...lots of alternative choices which the doctor said are viable options. However, they strongly prefer the PICC for a variety of reasons which also make sense but for which I am much too tired to discuss at this moment.

Suffice it to say that I unsure about this but need to make a decision by midnight tonight.
